Cool mornings, hot afternoons, great for Pinot & Chardonnay grapes.
What’s the story behind your winery name / label?
Sugarloaf Wine Co. (named after Sugarloaf Mountain) is part of Sugarloaf Crush which is a custom crush facility. 39 vintners currently make small batches of artisan wines at this location. Our tasting room serves 5 different vintner’s boutique wines, including a few other Garagistes.
Most importantly, what's so great about being small? What can you do as a small winery, that wouldn't be possible for larger wineries?
More thought, time, creativity and energy goes into small boutique wines as opposed to mass-produced wines.
How do you view the future in the wine industry for small-lot winemakers?
I think there will always be a lot of small production wineries coming on board especially if they are able to use custom crush facilities.
If you could choose another wine region to work in what would it be?
The Petaluma Gap AVA, which is also a great climate for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes.
